Experience
I graduated from the University of North Texas 21 years ago, and I've been a teacher ever since. I've taught mathematics to both elementary and middle school students, so I've picked up a variety of tricks for solving equations over the years. There are actually many different ways to solve math problems, which is very useful since students learn differently, so using different ways to solve problems helps the knowledge stick in their heads. As a tutor, I teach concepts to my students in a few different ways, and then my student chooses what works best for them. It is important to learn the concept behind the math problem before attempting to solve it, so I work with my students to understand the process behind math, not just how to find the right answer. Once students understand the why, the how will make much more sense. And, once a student learns problem-solving skills in one part of their life, they will gain confidence to apply problem-solving and self-exploration to other areas of their lives--not in school, but in their careers and beyond. When I'm not working as a math tutor, I enjoy puzzles, playing games with my children, and working in our yard.
